The evening performance of Snow

The house was packed, everyone around me laughing & cheering, enjoying all the conventional schticks & traditions of a distinctive English pantomime. And within it all, although at a distance, an echo of something quite real.

The evening performance of Snow White at The Marlowe: Toyah is a wonderful Wicked Queen, greeting the boos with a gracious thank you, thank you and lusting after a charismatic Prince Lorenzo (George Wood). I was the only person cheering for the Wicked Queen but then, how could I boo my Wife? She'd beat me up. The keen observer might notice little separation & objective distancing between role & performer, then.

Apparently there have been some humorously badly-behaved children at the shows. They shout die! and eat the apple! at Snow White. And when one of the child performers went into the audience, told him you're crap!
